MEX Speakers - 2/3 December 2009
May 2010 | December 2009 | May 2009 | May 2008 | May 2007
Kristoffer Aberg, Head of Interaction Architecture, Creative Design Centre, Sony Ericsson
Bio
The coming years will see an exponential development in open innovation and ubiquitous computing. Any brand that wants to facilitate experiences in that world needs to continuously challenge and rethink its understanding of interface, input, consistency and design language, across formerly perceived divides of analog and digital. As Head of Interaction Architecture at Sony Ericsson I lead a team directing, inspiring, creating, and integrating the interaction design language across the Sony Ericsson portfolio. This work involves balancing design based on the forces of consumer value, brand experience, and open innovation, a task which will only become more challenging as design becomes more multi-media, multi-platform, multi-disciplinary. Related to this topic, in this talk I want to share my thoughts on our exploration of some important problems ahead of us.

Dr Chris Roast, Reader, Sheffield University
Bio
Dr Chris Roast (BSc, MA) has been an active researcher in Human-Computer Interaction for over 15 years. His initial interest in the area was motivated by how examples of poor interface design seemed to suggest that general design rules were being broken. Work in this area developed into examining how to work with design rules that were not necessary, precise, consistent or coherent. His applied research experience includes highly interdisciplinary work and has included work in Fine Art, English Literature, Assistive Technology, Industrial Design, Simulation in Education and Human-Robot Interaction. An interest in ensuring that interaction design research is applicable and relevant to industry has lead to working closely with industry, and also an interest in innovation in user interface design. Most recent work in this area has involved working on efficient and practical methods to evaluation mobile browser services with Openwave. Chris is a Reader in HCI and is currently Knowledge Transfer Leader for the Culture Communication and Computing Research Institute within Sheffield Hallam University. He has headed the Communication and Computing Research Centre and worked extensively with the BCS HCI Group, he reviews for several international conferences and journals.
